W. T. White High School

Warren Travis White High School is a secondary school located at 4505 Ridgeside Drive in Dallas, Texas (USA) in the 75244 zip code.

W.T. White, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Dallas Independent School District.

The school, named in honor of the Dallas school superintendent who served from 1946 to 1968, is located in North Dallas about a mile southwest of the Interstate 635 (LBJ Freeway) and Dallas North Tollway intersection. Parts of North Dallas are zoned to W. T. White, as well as the DISD portions of Addison, Carrollton, and Farmers Branch.

Consistent with The University of Texas at Austin, W. T. White's mascot is the Longhorn, and the school colors are burnt orange and white.

In 2005, Newsweek magazine named W. T. White one of the 100 best public high schools in the country.

  • Every year, in accordance with homecoming, the school plays host to its very own homecoming day parade, which happens right before the actual homecoming football game. The parade usually consists of spirit groups within the school, the band, various sports teams, and local elementary schools that are in the same area as W. T. White.
  • "Hook 'em Horns" is a common phrase used among students that symbolizes the school's mascot—a longhorn—and goes in accordance with its fight song and the same traditions as the University of Texas at Austin.
  • The Powder Puff Games are a common tradition every year. Here the various grades within the school compete against each other in a game of football with both girls and boys participating.
  • W. T. White always kicks off the new school year with the annual Luau Dance, which is a Hawaiian-themed dance that helps freshmen in particular feel more comfortable among the entire student body and learn to have an appreciation for W. T. White.
  • W.T. White is known for the rigor of its AP (Advanced Placement) classes
