Um, I'm pretty sure that the acre of land sold to UTA in Layton was for the commuter rail system, not TRAX. bob rulz 04:54, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jello
Are you sure that green jello is the official snackfood of Utah? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 134.250.72.152 (talk • contribs) 23:49, 28 September 2005 (UTC).
- Yes, Green Jell-O is, according to the Utah State legislature, the official snackfood. There was a ceremony in I believe 2001 with Bill Cosby. This is due to its popularity among LDS church members"

[edit] Government
I added a section on the government of Utah that needs more work for brevity and clarity. Please let me know how this section can be edited to be better. Edward Lalone 20:05, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- I like the edition of the Government section. I moved it down the page a bit - see below. Now we need to work on the red links. — Zaui (talk) 17:00, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] arrangement
I moved some stuff around - the Government and Attractions are pretty big so I moved them down. Portals are supposed to be the main page of a topic so I moved up the things that are more 'main pagey' to show the breadth of Utah-related stuff on WP. I may still tweak it some. — Zaui (talk) 16:58, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Anniversary list?
Anyone have any other anniversaries to add to the list? See here for what's there now. I've try to expand where I can, but it's a little sparse from now to the end of the year. — Zaui (talk) 22:07, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Did the Mormon Pioneers found Salt Lake City on July 24, or just enter the valley? Also, I believe the original name was Great Salt Lake City. --Lethargy 22:21, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Does anyone know the date of the first Utah Jazz game in 1979? — Zaui (talk) 16:37, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- The dates when they were in the Finals would also be good. --Lethargy 16:53, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- November 9 and November 30 the Willie and Martin handcart companies arrived in Salt Lake City. See: Mormon handcart pioneers.
- John W. Gunnison was killed at Sevier Lake on 1853 October 26. Gunnison and the eleven men in his party were attacked by a band of Pahvants. Gunnison and seven of his men were killed. At least in the John W. Gunnison article, it is called the Gunnison Massacre.
Others which I don't know specific dates for are:
- The Stansbury and Fremont expeditions to Great Salt Lake.
- Events from the Dominguez-Escalante Expedition.
--Lethargy 16:53, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Another one: 1863 January 29, Bear River massacre --Lethargy 01:19, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Selected article
Anyone have an idea for a new selected article? Zion NP has been there since April. — Zaui (talk) 17:15, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I would probably rework the lead a bit, (to post here, not the actual article) but Great Salt Lake is pretty good IMO. It's a GA if that counts for anything. --Lethargy 17:42, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Being at least a GA should be a prerequisite. We should compile a list of Utah-related GAs for listing on the portal. I'll look at the GSL article. — Zaui (talk) 21:13, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think it might look better with Image:Great Salt Lake Utah USA2.jpg. Also, I'll post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Utah about digging up good and featured articles. --Lethargy 22:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- Mormon handcart pioneers would be a good one for October, aka this month :). BRMo has already created a lead section for use on WP's front page. --Lethargy 02:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Featured portals
Portal:Texas is the first state featured portal, so I'm slowing working on getting the Utah one up to similar quality by working on several things:
- Using Template:Random portal component to have rotating content for the selected picture. This is already done, though more images can be added, as long as they are good quality or unique in some way.
- Using Template:Random portal component to have rotating content for the selected article. I have started to populate the article page, and will add more to balance the large amount of geology- and nature-related articles (that happened to be featured).
- Texas has sections for biographies and cities. I'm not sure we have enough good Utah city articles to justify having a separate section - I'll have to take a look. I haven't started to look into a biography section yet either.
- Trimming the government and attraction sections from the portal. These subjects are better handled elsewhere - probably just need some links to pertinent articles.
-
- update: These are trimmed now - added some attractions to Template:Utah and made Government of Utah from the government section. — Zaui (talk) 23:22, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- If anyone knows of a way to have the anniversaries automatically update, I think that would be a neat feature.
- Adding a List of Utah... section
Other suggestions are welcome. — Zaui (talk) 17:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
