University of Art and Design Helsinki (Taideteollinen korkeakoulu in Finnish) is the largest art university in the Nordic countries. It was founded in 1871. Media Centre Lume - the National Research and Development Center of audiovisual media - is also located in the university. The university grants the following academic degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Licentiate of Arts and Doctor of Arts. The ratio of foreign students is the highest of Finnish universities.
The university has been active in establishing research projects and industry collaborations. During rector Yrjö Sotamaa's period the university has been active in integrating design into the Finnish innovation system.
