United States national women's hockey team - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

United States national women's hockey team

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American national women's ice hockey team is controlled by USA Hockey. The United States has been, by far, the second most dominant women's hockey team in international play, having won silver in every major tournament. Exceptions where they won gold are the 1998 Winter Olympics, and the 2005 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships. At those tournaments, the U.S. beat the dominant Canadian team, the team that regularly wins major tournaments. The exception where they won neither gold nor silver is the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won bronze over Finland. The U.S. has 500 female players (2005).[citation needed] The head coach is Mark Johnson.

In 1998, the Women's Olympic Hockey Team was named the USOC Team of the Year.
