Talk:University of Vienna
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Does anybody know if the picture from univie.ac.at can be used for wikipedia?
Or is there any other (possibly brighter) picture, that could be added to this site.
- There is a good picture on the German Wikipedia, which you could just upload to commons:. / Tupsharru 17:19, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Is it entirely fair to describe it as "not a full university" has it has separated its medical section? Full university status in the UK does not require a medical school (although most of those that top rankings have one). Is this an Austrian convention? Wee Jimmy 00:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Was the University founded in 1385 or 1365? Greenshed 11:48, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
In 1365, Rudolf IV sanctioned a deed of foundation for studies to doctoral level in Vienna on the model of the University of Paris. However, Pope Urban V did not ratify the deed to also found a Faculty of Theology, presumably due to pressure exerted by the Emperor who wished to avoid competition to Prague University. In 1384, papal agreement was finally received and Vienna University was extended to a full university, also including the fourth faculty, Theology. The first university building opened in 1385.
