Qusai ibn Kilab - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Qusai ibn Kilab

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Qusai ibn Kilab ibn Murrah (Qusayy) (Arabic: قصي ابن كلاب ابن مُراح‎) (c.400480) was the great-great-grandfather of Shaiba ibn Hashim (Abdul-Mutallib). He was fifth in the line of descent to Mohammad, and attained supreme power at Mecca. Qusai is amongst the ancestors of Sahaba and the progenitor of the Banu Quraish [1].

Also known as Zuhrah ibn Kilab ibn Murrah ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib, he was born into the Quraysh tribe. When Qusai came of age, a man from the tribe of Banu Khuza'a named Hulail was the trustee of the Kaaba. Qusai married his daughter and, in accordance with Hulail's will, received the trusteeship of the Kaaba after Hulal's death. He reconstructed the Kaaba from a state of decay and made the Arab people build their houses around it. He is known to have built the first "town hall" in the Arabian Peninsula. Leaders of different clans met in this hall to discuss their social, commercial, cultural and political problems. Qusai created laws so that pilgrims who went to Mecca were supplied with food and water, paid from local taxes.

Qusai was the father of Abd-al-Uzza ibn Qusai [2] and of Abd-al-Dar ibn Qusai[3]

According to some historians, Quraysh's real name was Fahr, and he was son of Malik son of Madar son of Kananah son of Khuzaimah son of Mudrikah son of Ilyas son of Mazar son of Nazar son of Ma`ad son of Adnan son of Isma`eel (Ishmael) son of Ibrahim (Abraham) son of Sam son of Noah[1]
