Isaac Huger

Isaac Huger (March 19, 1742 – October 17, 1797) was a planter and Continental Army general during the American Revolutionary War.

Huger was from Berkeley County, South Carolina. In 1760, he served as a lieutenant in the South Carolina militia and fought against the Cherokees during the French and Indian War.

He was later elected to the First Continental Congress. After hostilities with England broke out, he was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in the 1st South Carolina Regiment, South Carolina Line. He was promoted to colonel on September 16, 1776, and given command of the 5th South Carolina Regiment, South Carolina Line. His actions while commanding the 5th South Carolina resulted in his promotion to brigadier general in 1779. He fought in most of the major engagements in the Southern Theater of the Revolutionary War.

In September 1789, he was appointed by President Washington as one of the first 13 United States Marshals.

He was a great-uncle of Benjamin Huger, a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.
