Iron Man and X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal is the title of a video game published by Acclaim and developed by Real Sports and Realtime Associates for the PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, GameBoy, Game Gear, and the DOS in 1996. In the one or two-player side-scrolling arcade game you battled various villains from the Iron Man and X-O Manowar comic book series.

[edit] Storyline
The storyline is revealed through onscreen text, instead of animated sequences. Iron Man and X-O Manowar must team up in order to stop a team of supervillains from grabbing the lost fragments of the Cosmic Cube. During the game it is also revealed that the space aliens that Aric stole his X-O Manowar armor from, want it back. The two super heroes battle through several levels, familiar to comic book fans, to stop the terrorists and their supervillain leaders from trying to rule the universe.

Both Iron Man and X-O Manowar can jump, punch, shoot an unlimited supply of laser beams (that can be upgraded through icons) and use a limited supply of fuel to fly. At the start of each mission, a computer screen informs you of your objectives.
Level 1: Nuclear Plant Siege with bosses Mr. Hyde and the Melter.
Level 2: Stark Enterprises with bosses Titania, Yellowjacket and Goliath.
Level 3: Retake New York City with bosses Vizier and Mistress Crescendo.
Level 4: Dromak Base Assault with bosses Absorbing Man and Dromak Gladiator.
Level 5. Assault on Zola's Castle with bosses Arnim Zola and Mistress Crescendo.
Level 6. Alien Dig: The Cosmic Cube with bosses Baron Zemo and Mistress Crescendo.
Level 7. Board Dromak Ship with Final Boss General Krytos.
During the game you can collect medical icons to restore your health, and other icons to give your more fuel power, strong laser blants, and a special icon that lets you one mega blast from your characters armor chest. The game also allows you to destroy various gas cansisters, metal wiring and control panels to locate more icons, deactive certain weaponds, or advance in the game.

This was the first video game for the PlayStation 1 to be based on comic book properties and was widely successfully with video game magazine critics and fans of the comic book characters. However, many of the subsequent PlayStation 1 video games based on popular comic book heroes, were unsuccessful. [citation needed]

The video game was also adapted into a 2-issue comic book crossover featuring the two heroes teaming up to save the world.
