International Wrestling Association of Japan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
International Wrestling Association of Japan, more commonly known as IWA Japan, is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion operating since 1994. It was formed by Victor Quiñones as a successor to the original W*ING promotion with a tie-in with a promotion in Puerto Rico which would bear the same name. IWA Japan was originally a member of the National Wrestling Alliance but withdrew in 1996, after the reigning NWA World Tag Team Champions, Tarzan Goto & Mr. Gannosuke, jumped back to FMW, where they had started their prominence.
IWA Japan's style was originally garbage wrestling, but changed to regular wrestling after Goto left in 1998 for the second time. Nowadays IWA presents itself as a regular independent, but despite the general collapse of promotion using alternate styles (i.e. garbage, shoot style) it has not been able to recover its former fanbase.
