International Union of Public Transport

The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is a worldwide network covering all sorts of public transportation means, providers and players. It represents over 2700 urban, local, regional and national mobility actors from more than 90 countries on all continents. UITP also covers all modes of public transport - metro, bus, light rail, regional and suburban railways and waterborne transport. UITP gathers and monitors public transport statistics and mobility indicators, and acts as a knowledge hub on past and current developments and future trends.

UITP houses an international forum for public transport policy, offering a unique platform for inter-sectoral dialogue and for exchange and debate between the different profiles of players involved with public transport. The Union also works to create a favourable climate for the sector.

UITP actively engages a number of international bodies - such as the United Nations (UNEP, UNDESA, UNFCCC), the World Bank and European institutions. The current President is Roberto Cavalieri, Managing Director of Metropolitana di Roma (Met.Ro). The General Secretariat in Brussels is managed by Hans Rat, the Secretary General.

February UITP OPENS OFFICE IN DUBAI: The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) opened an office for its Middle East and North African (MENA) Division in Dubai this week. The office was officially opened by Hans Rat, UITP Secretary General, Matter Mohammed Al Tayer, Chair of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, and Abdul Aziz Abdulla Malik, Chair of UITP's MENA Division. UITP and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority also signed a contract of collaboration on this occasion.
