Information and Communications University

Information and Communications University (ICU) is a Korean university, founded in 1998, focusing primarily on research and engineering in the field of information technology.

ICU, located in the city of Daejeon, was founded by the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication. It was originally approved by the Korean Ministry of Education and Human Resources in 1997. It began as a graduate school in 1998, and an undergraduate school was added in 2002. ICU consists of two schools; one focuses on the business side of IT (management and policy/economics), the other on engineering and research.
ICU is a very small school with an uncertain future as it tries to carve out a niche with established and influential KAIST, POSTECH, and SNU. An expensive adventure of the Ministry of Information and Communication, the expense of maintaining the school coupled with the school very limited success in establishing its niche, have many in government calling for its closure or merger with KAIST (Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology).
Students attending the undergraduate program generally settle on ICU only after not being accepted into KAIST, POSTECH or SNU.
