Ikeda Terumasa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ikeda Terumasa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ikeda Terumasa (1564-1613, 池田輝政) Ikeda Terumasa, the son and heir of Ikeda Nobuteru. Terumasa was the holder of the Ikejiri Castle of the Mino Province, and like his father, assisted Toyotomi Hideyoshi following the Azuchi-Momoyama period of the 16th century. During the Komaki Campaign of 1584, Terumasa also supported that of Hideyoshi. Sadly during this battle, Terumasa's father was killed. After Tokugawa Ieyasu was transferred during the year of 1590, Terumasa was established at Yoshida in Mikawa, with a 152,000 koku fief.

During the year of 1594, Terumasa married one of the daughter's of Ieyasu. The Ikeda then drifted into Ieyasu’s camp after the death of Hideyoshi during they year of 1598. During the Battle of Sekigahara during the year of 1600, Terumasa immediately sided with that of the Tokugawa. Overall during the Battle of Sekigahara, the Ikeda led over 4,000 troops, and some desultory fighting with Chosokabe Morichika’s contingent took place as the battle wound down. Then during the 28th of September the same year, Terumasa went up against his rival, Fukushima Masanori to who would be the first to attack the Gifu Castle, which was held by Oda Hidenobu. After the Battle of Sekigahara was over, Terumasa received a 520,000-koku fief in Harima, centered on Himeji Castle.

During the year of 1603, Bizen was added to the domain of Terumasa, assigning the region to his eldest son, Ikeda Toshitaka. After the death of Terumasa during the year of 1613, the Ikeda had grown to rule over Harima, Bizen, Inaba, and Awaji, with a combined income of around 1,000,000-koku. For Terumasa's brilliance, he even became known throughout the land as "The Shogun of Western Japan".
