[edit] Question regarding the article "Oceanic Flight 815"

Hello you previously voted to delete the article oceanic flight 815, well now it has gone through a clean up and has been moved to a new name Oceanic Flight 815 would you consider looking at the article and seeing if it has improved enough for you to change your nomination as so many others have done.

Thankyou

[edit] Glad to meet you

Good to see another wikipedian with a good sense of humor. It is good to be God. --Dschor 11:54, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

Yes, I know the person in question. Yes, highly interesting.

Pianist at NEC? I must have seen you there then, possibly?...Maybe not.

Well, anyway, good to see you around on Wikipedia.

(Hapless Hero 23:35, 7 January 2006 (UTC)) Dear DrIdiot,

A colleague and I are working on a Boston Globe story about wikipedia, and we are looking for a few local folks -- we have talked to several already -- who like to contribute and have views about the project. Will you call me at 617 929-3263? Or you could also email me at mehegan@globe.com if you want to suggest a number where and time when I could call you.

Thanks so much,

David Mehegan The Boston Globe

[edit] Administrator intervention against vandalism

Hi DrIdiot! Thanks for reporting an IP for vandalism at the page Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.

At the top of that page is a big green box with a list of instructions on what to report and how. You didn't follow this, I'm afraid, which caused extra work for busy admins.

The big green box mentions the format to use for reporting a vandal (although the person before you ignored that too, and you just copied their format, which is explicable). That format - {{vandal|username_or_ip}} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) -- ~~~~ creates a line that allows admins to examine the problem with one click, rather than three or four without it.

Also, you ignored the instruction:

  • 2. They have not vandalized very recently (past 2 hours) since the last warning ({{test3}} or {{test4}})

The vandal you reported had not been warned at all today, and had not vandalised for over four hours. Even with anonymous users we must Assume Good Faith - the warning messages start from "oops, you made a mistake" and build slowly to "you are blocked" because newbies make mistakes and we don't want to drive them away. Every new user has to start somewhere.

With anonymous IP users, we have no real way of knowing if it's one person or dozens of separate people behind the number - any one of which could be a future great editor of Wikipedia. So we're always reluctant to ban, especially if the anon hasn't been warned and hasn't edited at all for several hours.

I hope this explains the thinking behind not banning this anon user. Keep reporting vandalism (every little helps!) but please do follow guidelines so we can all be most effective against them. Thanks! ➨ REDVERS 21:59, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yutaka Taniyama

Okay, I guess it's my bad here. I've transferred direct translations of words "science" and "mathematics" from Russian. In Russian, "mathematics" is one of "sciences", while in English, it's debated and, commonly "science" refers only to "empirical science" and "mathematics" refers to all "abstract sciences". Personally, I dislike this fact, but, given that Wikipedia's Category:People by occupation list scientists and mathematicians distinctly on single level, I will obey the trend. So, I'll transfer all mathematicians who committed suicide from scientists to separate mathematicians. --GreyCat 12:19, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia_talk:Censorship

A watered-down version of the proposed policy against censorship is now open for voting. Will you kindly review the policy and make your opinions known? Thank you very much. Loom91 12:24, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tom Lantos

Hi DrIdiot, you made some changes in the article about Dem. Congressman Tom Lantos. You asked me to find sources about his "real" name. So, here is one: http://www1.minn.net/~graczar/FTR-216_hung_diaspora.htm (Point 14). Before I forget: Tom Lantos was born in Hungary. Tamás is the Hungarian form of Thomas (or Tom). Péter is the Hungarian form of Peter. In the Hungarian Who is Who? Tom Lantos is wrote in as "Lantos Tamás (Tom)". Best wishes, Cassandro from Budapest, Hungary, 23:30, 13 April 2006 (CEST)

[edit] Massachusetts

Hi, I just wanted you to see the disclaimer about some false data that was posted about my state. --merlinus 23:37, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Merlinus--merlinus 23:37, 13 April 2006 (UTC) Massachusetts Mass Resident Rebukes this Garbage I am a proud Massachusetts resident... I read this page and was really quite offened... 1. We are the "Bay State" not ... "Bay Staters" 2. The Gay Marriage is being reviewed here by the goveror and may be taken off the books. The immature slurs are stupid... As for my wife and I, we don't care if someone is gay or not. 3. We find it VERY OFFENSIVE if someone calls us "Massholes" 4. If we legally have a State Doughnut being "Boston Cream," its stupid and no One knows about it, its like someone calling "French Fries" are the National Food of France. Please check your references better for this article. Keep a watch on offending Massachusetts people... even if there is some technical/legal reason that is not in real use. --merlinus 23:21, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Merlinus--merlinus 23:21, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Bay Stater? Ok, Thats fine when refering to someone who lives in the Bay State... in that context. Still it is rarely used as far as I know. I've lived in Massachusetts since 1964 and seldom come across it. Its the name of a newspaper here... but is not in general use even if you have heard of it. As for the Boston Cream Pie orr Boston Cream Doughnut as our State food, I guess its technically valid but is it useful information. Why not instead name our: state flower "Mayflower" Motto: By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty state bird "The Chickadee" Highest Point: Mt. Greylock; 3491 feet

  • Hi I Am Marc:

I was recently married to my lovely wife; We have lived together for several years already...

  • We love cats (3 currently own us)... Jeffy(15), Echo(6) & Gizmo(3). All sleep with us in the big bed and no room to move an inch.
  • I was Disabled in a 1993 (Coma)/ and am very slowly recovering. It's tough going out sometimes, though with friends I still do. I have a few supportive friends.
  • I am an "Unenrolled voter." Democrat/ Republicans, I don't care, whoever serves makes my life better in the long run I vote for!
  • Avid reader. Has collection of many hundreds of rare books. Especially Science Fiction and Fantasy.
  • Avid Music collector (2,500 albums)...mostly bootlegs...mostly rare bootlegs...Stones, Kinks, Clapton, Beatles. and solos!

I am what I am I'm strongly opinionated about disabled peoples' rights and jobs for American citizens who have trouble finding minimum wage jobs in my state today and support Universal health care, I would be dead if I did not have it. I am an idiot about Internet social skills. I hope that the Immigration Reform bill will protect disabled citizens who wish to work like myself first before considering allowing new people to come here. I was searching for an internet forum to be my outlet to express my needs, but found that Wikipedia is not best suited for that. I'm brushing up on Wikipedia's rules of conduct, and slowly starting to begin contributing again.

Current book and CD I own hundreds of rare books

  • Current Book Jack Whyte: "Uther"
  • Current CD Faves:
    • Warren Zevon... "Life'll Kill Ya"
    • Howlin' Wolf: "Greatest Hits"
  • Latest Flick: "Charles II: The Last King"
