Drayton Valley is a town in Alberta, Canada and is part of the oil region.
It has a population of 6,210[1] and is located 133 kilometres south-west of Edmonton. Its local newspaper is called the Drayton Valley Western Review.[2] Drayton Valley's main attraction is the Omniplex, a community sports centre which specialises in ice hockey, ringette, and curling; the area also supports soccer, baseball, and rodeo. It also has a public swimming pool, a skiing hill, and the Drayton Valley Golf and Country Club. Drayton Valley is part of the Drayton Valley-Calmar electoral district.
In recent years, Drayton Valley has been experiencing "growing drug problems"[3], primarily crystal meth, which in turn is driving additional criminal activity.[4]
Drayton Valley's mayor is Diana McQueen, elected in October, 2004. The previous mayor was Moe Hamdon.
