Don Warrington - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don Warrington

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don Warrington is a British television and stage actor, originally from Trinidad and Tobago where he was born in 1952. Warrington was raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, England and joined his local repertory theatre aged 17, where he lost his Geordie accent. His father was Trinidad politician Basil Warrington who died in 1958.

He is chiefly known for playing Philip Smith in Rising Damp, alongside Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale. He has also appeared in crime drama C.A.T.S. Eyes, Red Dwarf, Manchild and portrayed Rassilon in several Doctor Who audio plays. Warrington appeared as "The President (of Great Britain)" in the Doctor Who (2006) episode Rise of the Cybermen. He is also one of the interviewees on the BBC 2 series Grumpy Old Men. Somewhat ironically, he now appears in a Kenco coffee advertisement in the UK, of the type criticised in the BBC show in which he currently appears.

Well known for his suave, cultured voice, Warrington has also performed with the National Theatre, the English Shakespeare Company and the Bristol Old Vic.
