Discworld II: Missing Presumed...!? (Discworld II: Mortality Bytes! in North America) is the second graphic adventure game based on Terry Pratchett's series of fantasy novels set on the mythical Discworld. The game was developed by Perfect Entertainment and published by Psygnosis in 1996 on two CD-ROMs. It features hand-drawn environments and animations, full voice acting and a simple interface.

In Discworld II the player controls Rincewind the Wizzard (voiced by Eric Idle, as in the previous game) who has been burdened with the task of coercing Death out of his impromptu retirement and back into his regular duties. The plot borrows from a number of Discworld books, most notably Reaper Man, Moving Pictures and Lords and Ladies.

[edit] Plot

It all begins in a quiet Ankh-Morpork street, where Rincewind and The Librarian inexplicably fail to die from a nearby cart-bomb explosion. The odd event is not shared by them alone however: occurrences of the newly dead re-awakening and disturbing the populace are being reported all over the city, prompting the archchancellor of Unseen University to halt his usual activities of feasting and merrymaking, and to take charge of the situation. Much to Rincewind's despair, the entirety of this process involved appointing him to the task of finding and convincing Death to resume his work.

[edit] Easter eggs

[edit] Time-travelling Rincewind

  1. For this easter egg the player must be in Act II.
  2. After asking Granny Weatherwax about elves the Stone Circle will appear on the Discworld map.
  3. The Stone Circle must be entered five times -without- skipping the entrance animation. (The exit animations can be skipped.)
  4. The fifth time Rincewind enters the Stone Circle he will appear in his bedroom, circa the previous game, where he will meet and converse with his younger self.

Note: There are four different conversations they can have. To see the others, step 4 must be repeated.

[edit] Weird Rincewind

Using the special effects imp on Rincewind in Act II will make him spin around crazily.

[edit] Voice cast

A number of changes were made to the voice cast since the previous Discworld game. While Eric Idle reprised his role as Rincewind, Tony Robinson did not return, and Jon Pertwee passed away before production could begin. Rob Brydon and Kate Robbins did return, however, and Young Ones actor Nigel Planer was added to the cast. The Death of Rats is voiced by "Katharine the crocodile", and Rob Brydon seemingly provided the new voices for Dibbler, Windle Poons, the Patrician, Chuckie and the Fool.
