Differences between the W.I.T.C.H. comic and animated series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Differences between the W.I.T.C.H. comic and animated series

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are many differences between the W.I.T.C.H. comic and the animated series. As with many comic book to animated series conversions, creators use certain liberties to dramatize, censor, and generally condense the original story. Below is a listing of major distinctions between the two versions:

Contents

[edit] Season 1

  • The girl's costumes are pink instead of purple.
  • Introduces exclusive characters, such as Blunk and the Mage who are not in the actual comic book.
  • The name of Phobos is mentioned in the first episode.
  • It took a few episodes for Cedric to locate and take Elyon.
  • In the comics, Prince Phobos' advisers are known as "Murmurers". The show has them named "Whisperers".
  • In the animated series, the Astral Drops when created don't know anything and disappear at the mention of 'Astral Drops'. In the comics they are created as a perfect copy (with the exception at first of Will's Astral Drop) and disappear when requested.
  • The comics have twelve portal openings in the Veil, while the show has it as unlimited.
  • In the show, most of the people of Meridian are humans, but in the comics there are actually four kinds: the Galhot, the native species of Meridian (Vathek is a Galhot); The Escanor, descendants of knight Escanor, a human warrior who was asked to help the Galhot defeating an enemy. As a reward he got the throne, later offered to his wife Leryn. The mix-breeds are creatures coming from both Galhot and Escanor parents. The fourth one isn't a real species, but independent Whisperers like Caleb.
  • In the comics, Xin Jing is not the daughter of the Jade Emperor.
  • Matt finds out about the Guardians in The Stolen Heart. In the comics, he does not know about the girl's secret until Will tells him.
  • Differently from the comics, Elyon would be reduced to a black rose instead of dying from having her powers siphoned (note: it is possible this means she will die and the a black rose is just what her body would become).
  • In the comics, Hay Lin's grandmother dies. In the animated series, she doesn't.
  • In the TV show, the girls are seen to live in America, in the comic, they are show to live in either Italy or England.
  • In the comic, the Cornelia, Will and Elyon are in Year 9, and Taranee, Hay Lin and Irma are in Year 8. But in the TV show, Cornelia, Will and Elyon are in Year 8, and Taranee, Hay Lin and Irma are in Year 7.

[edit] Season 2

  • In the comics Nerissa broke free from her coffin in Mount Thanos after all 5 aurameres were combined into Cornelia, while in the animated series she escaped Mount Thanos when a portal to Meridian appeared after the veil had been raised. the 5 aurameres were combined into Cornelia later, during a battle with Khor in Kandakar.
  • In the comic, The Knights of Revenge are Khor, Shagon, Tridart, and Ember while in the show The Knights of Vengeance are Gargoyle, Miranda, Sandpit, The Tracker, and Frost. The villains that make up the Knights of Revenge later appear as the Knights of Destruction.
  • In the comics Khor and Shagon are a man and his dog, whereas in the show Nerissa creates them from Matt and Mr. Huggles.
  • In the comic book, the girls knew about their secondary powers relatively soon. In the show, the girls don't develop secondary powers until the second season.
  • In the comic book, it is never explained why the girls have secondary powers, in the show, Taranee suggests that their secondary powers developed once the veil in Kandrakar was lifted.
  • The Guardians meet with Elyon many times, yet in the comic book, they cannot travel between worlds after the Veil is lifted.
  • In the books, Caleb was a murmurer, and had no parents, yet in the show his mother is Nerissa.
  • In the comics, Kadma and Halinor were banished from Candracar and never returned back to see the Oracle. However in the show, Halinor resides in Candracar while Kadma is Queen of the planet Zamballa.
  • After Cassidy died in the comics, Kadma, Halinor and Yan Lin retired from being Guardians. However, in the show they continued until the Veil was raised and they were separated in different worlds.
  • In the Comic, the four dragons are Earth - Yellow, Fire - White (Pearl), Air - Black and Water - Red. But in the TV show the dragons are Earth- Green, Fire - Red, Air - Light Blue and Water - Blue.
  • In the Comic, Phobos is taken care of in the first season and does not return until the fifth. In the TV show, the girls are forced to enlist his help to defeat Nerissa, thus he steals her powers and returns as the main villain.

[edit] The Guardians

  • Will and the other girls are mentioned as 12-13 years old in the show, where as the comics show them as 13-14 years old.
  • In the comic, Irma is plump, Will and Hay Lin are very skinny, Cornelia and Taranee are fit and athletic. In the series, they are all thin.

  • In the TV show, all the Guardians have mobile phones, in the comic, only Will owns one.

  • In the comics, both Will and Taranee are new to Sheffield Institute, but in the series Will is the only new girl; Taranee was new last year.
  • In the comics, the Heart of Kandrakar is kept in Will's palm of her hand, but in the show it is kept as a necklace.
  • In the show, Will's dormouse is named Mr. Huggles and is grey. In the comics, he has a different name (he is nameless in the US, and has many other names in other countries) and is black and brown.
  • In the comics, the dormouse remains with Will, but in the series he is passed on to Irma, then Hay Lin, then Taranee, then Cornelia, then Elyon, then Matt.
  • In the comic book, Susan Vandom wanted to move Will away from Heatherfield because they were not getting along with each other. In the show, she wants to move Will away because her grades are slipping.
  • In the comic book, Will was born sometime in January. However, in the show, she was born sometime between September and November.
  • In the comic books, Will's dad's name is Thomas, whereas in the show his name had to be changed to Tony Vadnom for specific reasons.
  • In the comic books, Thomas had a private investigstor following Will's Mom to find information to blackmail her in giving him custody of Will. Standards & Practices, however, found it too unsuitable for the young audience and insisted on changing it. Q Is For Quarry instead introduces Tony's new girlfriend.[1]

  • In the books, Irma is unable to animate water from thin air; stating: "I can't just wring the stuff out of thin air". In the show, however, she can draw it out of the air (theoretically from the humidity, meaning she infact could quite literly "wring" watter out of thin air).
  • On the show, Anna Lair is Irma's birth mother, not her stepmother. In "Happy Birthday, Will" Anna remembers when Irma was very young, and in "Parents Night", Irma mentions that her mother once baked cookies with her nickname for Irma when she was a baby.
  • In the Show all Witch-Members like and talk a lot about `boys` in the comic only Irma is the boys expert/lover.

  • In the show, Cornelia hates the cat Will buys her, in the comic, she only hates it at first but then loves it because Napolean(the cat) saves Flower Caleb from a crow twice.

  • In the comics, Hay Lin's play turns out well, but in the show it turns out very badly, and is partially insulted by Mrs Knickerbocker.
  • In the comic Hay Lin first sees Eric over summer after he almost runs her over with his moterbike. In the shows she first sees him when he is waiting for a bus across the street.

[edit] Other Characters

  • In the comics, Elyon's birthday is on October 31, where as the show has it as March 13.
  • In the show Laurent was renamed Clubber because it was deemed by some that Laurent was the kind of name a kid would get beaten over at school, and therefore the opposite of a typical bully name.
