Dialga (ディアルガ Diaruga?) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Dialga is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as the Pokémon who will adorn the box-art of Pokémon Diamond (see also Palkia). The purpose of Dialga in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

The first part of Dialga's name comes from the spelling of the word "Diamond".

[edit] Appearance

Dialga is shaped much like a dinosaur with some features of a horse. It has a long neck, tail, and stump-like legs. It has many silver protrusions resembling spikes along the back of its neck, on its head, on its top rear, and on its chest. Lodged into the chest protrusions is a glowing blue, diamond-like jewel. Running along its body are light blue lines that fluctuate into diamond shapes. When it is in attack mode, Dialga will expand the size of its rear spikes as seen in its silhouette in Pokémon tenth movie teaser broadcasted in Japan. Dialga also resembles the WEAPONs from the Final Fantasy games in some respects.

It is also interesting to note that both Dialga and Palkia have distinctive features that represent which game they are featured in. The ornament in the middle of Dialga's chest looks like a diamond, which in turn, represents the Diamond version.

[edit] In the video games

Dialga is one of the legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Its Steel and Dragon type combination make it resistant to many other types, and this type combination is a first in the Pokémon world.

Dialga is the counterpart of Palkia.

It is known that Dialga has a link to Celebi, because it made time, and Celebi tours on whatever time position it wants.

According to the Japanese version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Dialga can learn a wide array of moves including some Normal-type (Scary Face & Slash), Steel-type (Metal Claw & Luster Cannon), and Dragon-type (Dragon Claw & Dragonbreath) moves. Dialga also learns Time Roar, a new move that could be called its "signature move"; it is basically a Dragon-type version of Hyper Beam.

Dialga's highest asset is its Special Attack; it also has respectable Attack and Defense values, along with decent HP, Special Defense and Speed. The combination of high attack and speed values makes Dialga ideal in offense. Dialga has a better Defense score than its counterpart Palkia, which has higher Special Defense.

It is fought (and can be captured) in Pokémon Diamond only, right after the battle with the head of Team Galaxy.
