Derby North is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is currently a Labour-Conservative marginal seat.

[edit] Boundaries
Derby North constituency roughly covers the northern part of the city of Derby. It was a Labour seat for nearly fifty years until the Conservatives gained it in their landslide victory in 1983. They held it for fourteen years until Labour regained the seat in their landslide year in 1997, 2001 and more recently in 2005 against a strong Conservative challenge.
In January 2007 the constituency boundaries change significantly and this alters the political balance offering all three main parties a realistic opportunity of successfully returning an Member of Parliament. The Liberal Democrats now see Derby North as a realistic target based on 2006 Local Election vote share.
However, the impact of increasing Conservative support specifically at the expensive of the Liberal Democrats in both Mickleover and Littleover will have significant influence on the result in the next General Election. They are key wards to watch in future Local Elections and will have significant influence on the overall result.
From January 2007, Wards in the new Derby North Consituency will be;
Abbey, Chaddesden, Darley, Derwent, Littleover, Mackworth and Mickleover.
