Paraguay consists of 17 departments (Spanish: departamentos; singular – departamento) and one capitol district (distrito capital). These are, with their capitals indicated in parentheses:

- Concepción (Concepción)
- Cordillera (Caacupé)
- Guairá (Villarrica)
- Itapúa (Encarnación)
- Misiones (San Juan Bautista)
- Ñeembucú (Pilar)
- Paraguarí (Paraguarí)
