Denise Fox is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She is played by Diane Parish. She made her first appearance on Thursday 11 May 2006 and she works at Walford Post Office.

[edit] History

"Dee" has two daughters, Chelsea and Libby (nicknamed "Squiggle" as a much younger Chelsea first described what her sister looked like on a baby scan). She is fiercely protective of her daughters, and arrived to discover Chelsea was seeing and had slept with Grant Mitchell, who was more than 20 years her senior. She went into The Queen Vic and shouted at Kevin Wicks, thinking he was Grant, but Chelsea told her she had the wrong man.

On Monday 19 June 2006 Denise and Kevin finally kissed, and after over a month of trying exceptionally hard to win Denise over, Kevin managed to woo her. Kevin supported Denise in her feud with her ex-husband, Owen Turner.

In July, Chelsea's manageress at Fargos, Elaine Jarvis, took a fancy to Kevin. Elaine then sacked Chelsea for complaining about wearing a babyish outfit and then walked in on Kevin and Denise passionately kissing in the kitchen of Fargo's. Kevin then dumped Elaine.

Owen returned from Spain in July 2006 and was determined to make sure he got to see Squiggle. On Squiggle's birthday, she convinced Denise and Owen to have dinner together. Owen used this opportunity to make his move on Denise and she said she would think about allowing him time to see Squiggle. Owen and Denise slept together that day. At this time, Chelsea and Squiggle thought Denise was going to get back with Kevin, but she broke it off with him. The news of Denise and Owen's moment together was received very happily by Squiggle but Chelsea was disgusted by what happened. Her comments about this led to Denise slapping her. Denise decided to break it off with Owen but after a few drinks at the pub he hit her and viciously announced that he's back and going to stay.

On July 31, Denise made the decision to leave the Square without Owen. Chelsea announced that she did not want to go and the two had a long talk together. Denise revealed that she still loved Owen despite that fact that her hit her. It was also revealed that Owen had, at one point, hit Chelsea. Denise realised she made a huge mistake with Owen, after Chelsea pointed out that Squiggle was the only one who did not know that he was hitting her. She also pointed out that Owen found it very convenient to hit Denise whenever Squiggle was asleep, so obviously he was not too drunk to know what he was doing.

When Denise tried to break up with Owen, he attacked her and knocked a tooth out, and caused a lot of cuts and bruises to her face and ribs. He was arrested after taking her and Kevin hostage with a knife.

Owen's mother Liz later arrived in Walford for Owen's trial, and took Squiggle to see Owen in prison. Squiggle was upset and persuaded Denise to provide a character witness for Owen. Owen was given a suspended sentence, and planned to move to Wales. However, he stopped the taxi at the last minute and kidnapped Squiggle, phoning Denise to tell her that he was going to kill her and commit suicide. Denise rushed to Epping Forest, where the police had had a sightng of Owen, and screamed her daughter's name. Squiggle called back, and this caused Owen to try and drown her and himself. Denise and Kevin found Squiggle unconscious, and took her home. However, Squiggle hated the flat, as it reminded her of her ordeal, so Denise took her family to live with Kevin and his family.

In October, Denise was puzzled by Yolande Trueman when she said that Patrick, Yolande's husband, was in a band called The Five Hectors. Denise knew that her father, whom she never knew, was also in a band called The Five Hectors. Denise and Yolande pondered as there was a 1 in 5 chance of Patrick being Denise's father. A second member of the group, Cedric Lucas had died in the same week. At Cedric's funeral, a third member of the band showed up, named Aubrey Valentine. Denise realises that any of the five members could be her long-lost father, three of whom, Cedric, Dwight and Earl, are dead. Aubrey and Patrick agreed to paternity tests.

After Aubrey left Walford after trying to seduce Patrick's wife, Patrick agreed to the test. He awaited for the phone call telling him if he was indeed Denise's father, but he was not. Not wanting to dissapoint Libby (and also having grown attached to the family), he lied to the Foxes, telling them that he was Denise's father. The Fox family were over the moon.

On 4 December, Kevin took his two children Deano and Carly, along with the Foxes (Denise, Libby and Chelsea), and the Truemans (Patrick and Yolande) on holiday to Dorset so that they could "bond" as a family. It was then that Patrick admitted to Denise that he was not her father.
