Defense Information School

The Defense Information School, or DINFOS, is a United States Department of Defense (DoD) school located at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Members from all branches of the military and DoD civilians attend DINFOS for training in public affairs, print journalism, photojournalism, photography, television and radio broadcasting, lithography, equipment maintenance and various forms of multimedia. DINFOS is essentially the DoD's version of an art school. Most classes are equal to two semesters of college.

 The journalism classes feature not only basic writing skills, but include a headline style known at the school as "headline-ese," a total style for writing and developing headlines. 
 From hard news to sports to feature stories, the students are taught a variety of writing styles and formats. 

 The Photojournalism courses help to develop basic skills of composition, exposure, and general camera operation. Flash photography is introduced in the basic photography course. 
 During the advanced photography courses, students learn advanced photo-editing, composition and other techniques not taught in the basic course. 

For military print journalists, DINFOS offers the Basic Journalist Course (12 Weeks) and Advanced Journalist Course, for newpaper editors (3 weeks) (for Army MOS 46Q).
