[edit] Welcome from Redwolf24

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Redwolf24 The current time and date is 04:37, 14 December 2006 (UTC).

P.S. I like messages :-P

[edit] Figuring out context

Hi, I noticed your efforts to cleanup some newbie contributions (Sensor Bomb, Bacoon) and thought I'd share a tip: when you run into an article that seems like the author assumed anyone reading would know the context, try looking at "What links here". Very often such articles get produced when someone runs across a list of redlinks (the list of characters in a TV show, a list of weapons in a video game, etc.) and thinks that they'll fill in the missing space, forgetting or not knowing that not everyone who runs across that article in future will find it by going through the list. -- Antaeus Feldspar 03:01, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Ah, I should have thought of that. Excellent tip, thanks! DavidConrad

[edit] ouch

Dave's a great guy and apologized for the snafu that caused this comment, so I don't see any reason to leave it here! Thirty3 17:55, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

You're quite right, I was out of line, and I shouldn't have put the comment on your user page. Wikipedia has a policy of "Wikipedia:Don't bite the newbies", and apparently I need to go read it a few times. --DavidConrad 02:08, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Christmas in July

I take no offense. If someone thinks an article has factual blunders then the article does deserve to have the factual dispute tag placed on it. I was searching the Requested Articles page and Christmas in July was requested to be written so apparently somebody else aside from me thinks it's a real thing. So thank you for your concerns and thanks for the "talk"--I'll try to fix it to the best of my ability. Sincerely, --StevenL 15:20, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Annoyances

It really pisses me off bugs me that WP forgot I was logged in (did I lose my connection and have to dial in again?) before I saved the Emily Blackwell article. Now, instead of being recorded as the author of it, I'm just the guy who fixed a tiny typo in one of the external links. DavidConrad 05:33, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vote on deletion of suburbs

Vote on deletion of suburbs Hi, I've provided updated information about the reasons for the deletion of the 5 suburbs below, which I would encourage you to please read and consider:

-- All the best, Nickj (t) 00:29, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

I believe Burnside is a slightly different case to the others and have updated the article to give a bit more information. Could you please take another look at it? JPD 09:20, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Davien Crow, etc

I did a quick glance over the whole debacle and noticed a few things:

These users:

all are completely focused on this "Sin Star" world. Check their contribs.

These articles, along with the now-deleted Sin Star and Mind Pollution were each created and/or mostly edited by one of the previously listed people:

and might be worth looking at for AfD in the same vein as the other articles. I recommend commenting at WP:ANI#Sin_Star.2C_Mind_Pollution_and_Davien_Crow where User:G4DGET commented last. I have not taken a stance in this previously and I wish to remain outside of this discussion (so I'm not the guy coming in halfway through the debate), just thought you could use this information. [edit] WikiLove

Thanks for that :) Redwolf24 (talk) 21:51, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Oh, and may I ask you what user you were talking about? By my estimate only about 30% of the users I welcome stick around. Redwolf24 (talk) 21:54, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Victoria Escobar

Hi, Might as well have presentable garbage if it's going to be up there for 5 days. I'm awarding you a virtual barnstar for dedication to article quality far beyond the call of duty :-) Dlyons493 Talk 16:18, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

As with most awards - it arrives late :-)

I award The Virtual Barnstar to DavidConrad for editing above and beyond the call of duty.

[edit] Indian cavalry article

Lew Rockwell has some ideas why the Cherokee allied with the CSA. He doesn't know for sure why they did it. Normaly I wouldn't nit pick like this but due to his controversial status I think it's best not to represent his word as fact. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Grazon (talkcontribs) 01:23, 11 September 2005.

[edit] my bad

sorry about the sig. DavidConrad

[edit] Indian cav.

LOL I think I was the one who posted the lewrockwell link in the first place.

thanks for being reasonable.

[edit] James M. Ryan

I noticed that the James M. Ryan article still had the AfD notice at the top although you had closed the vote (guess you must have missed it), so I went ahead and removed it. Just FYI. --DavidConrad 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Yup, my bad. Thanks. Stifle 08:55, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Needlework articles

User:Pathoschild and I are already watching. See User talk:Nmforste. Thanks. --Perfecto 08:34, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

No you didn't go overboard. You did exactly the same thing I did. (See my User contributions.) I just spared you the effort. When she ignored me, I ran to #wikipedia-en-vandalism for support. --Perfecto 09:02, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Traduce

[edit] Swifties

Hi, David,

Re your recent work on the Tom Swifties page:

It might work well to float things on the talk page first. fwiw I disagree with your feeling about the airsick Swiftie, but you didn't delete it, just moved it. OK by me. I don't find the mincing one that great, but maybe I don't know (maybe don't want to know?) what the verb mince means nowadays. If it is reference to the stereotype of homosexuals as literally mincing when they walk or talk, I don't find it particularly funny. Is there a pun on Brad Pitt's name? Otherwise why put it in? (Whether he's gay or not—I assume he is?) The standard spelling of the adverb is "gaily", not "gayly". Anyway, it seems we might discuss that sort of thing before posting or deleting things. Don't have to, of course; it's a sort of contradiction of the "be bold" motto. But it seems polite, and perhaps more importantly, useful, to me.

Best,

--Lavintzin 02:57, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Sharon McPhail.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sharon McPhail.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 15:56, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
