[edit] Sharing Roles

So she apparently shared the role of Samara Morgan in the ring and the ring two? It said on Kelly Stable's site that she (Kelly) was Samara in the first movie and the second movie and so was Daveigh. --HurricaneJeanne 22:17, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Daveigh was Samara in The Ring. In The Ring Two, they used some archive footage with Daveigh in it, but the role was credited to Kelly Stable. Stephe1987 02:37, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo

The photo was taken on 14 November 2005— not in 2006, so I fixed that.

[edit] Christian

I removed the following from the article, which was added as a hidden comment.

Daveigh being a Christian must be true. On www.daveigh.com on the facts page it says so

I believe it is in reference to the removal of the Category:Christian actors from the article. I thought a hidden note was unnecessary, so I am moving it here for further comment. I have no opinion on the matter. --TeaDrinker 23:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rather lengthy plot descriptions

Anyone else feel they should be pared down to something more concise? This is, after all, a biographical article, and if people want detailed plot descriptions of Spirited Away or The Ring they can always go to the respective articles on those films. Serpent-A 02:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

The plot descriptions have been around a long time so obviously people appreciate them (except you, obviously). If you remove them again, you will be reported to Wikipedia for vandalism. 7g7em7ini (16.9.06)
I pared down the plot descriptions exactly one time, and if you had been paying attention you would see I posted here in the talk page a long time before doing so. You chose not to offer your input here until after the fact. Please remember to assume good faith and try to be civil. Making rather baseless accusations of vandalism and threats to "report" me are more than a little silly.
The fact is that for a biographical article, the plot descriptions ARE overly long and tedious. Take a look at well done articles involving famous actors like Julia Roberts, Mandy Moore, or Marlon Brando and you will see that they don't dwell obsessively over plot details the way you seem to want this article to do. The reader is fully capable of clicking on the link to the film articles if he/she wants a more comprehensive plot description. Serpent-A 01:11, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I would also add to the comments made by 7g7em7ini, Serpent A, that given your obvious ignorance of the fact that Alice in Wonderland was an important influence upon Spirited Away and of the fact that Devaeigh Chase has never made a film with a christian theme, that it would probably be best if you refrain from making further amendments to this biography unless you are absolutely certain of your facts. I agree with 7g7em7ini that the plots add a lot to and are integral to the biography. BT 16 September 2006
1) Pleae sign your posts, Mr/Ms. Anon. 2) Can you tell me why the actual article on Spirited Away makes no mention of this Alice in Wonderland connection? Maybe you should spend your time arguing your point at that article's talk page. 3) I'm not sure what you're getting at with this talk about a christian themed movie. There was an editor, a while back, who kept adding "Category: Christian actors" to this article, even though it was clearly inappropriate and the editor provided no proof. Is that what you're refering to? Serpent-A 01:11, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Serpent-A: The weight of opinion appears to be that the plot descriptions should remain as they were. I agree with 7g7em7ini and BK that they are an integral part of the biography. They are very well written and certainly not overly long and tedious. Unless there are others apart from yourself that support your proposed edits, then as the weight of opinion appears to be in favour of retaining the plot descriptions as they were, then it is only fair and reasonable that they should remain. mailbot 9.16.06
If the weight of the opinion here is to keep the lengthy plot descriptions, then I will accept that. I wont push the matter any further. Serpent-A 17:51, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Postscript: Serpent-A, I had a look into the points you made with respect to BK comments. In relation to the Alice in Wonderland connection re the film Spirited Away, you have already actually been told of the reference in the New York Times review of the film and that there are other references in numerous other reviews. Looking at other reviews, there are references in the following: http://www.onlineghibli.com/spirited_away/review-synopsis.php, http://www.femail.com.au/spiritedaway.htm, http://www.epinions.com/content_223056072324, http://www.amazon.com/Spirited-Away-Miyazakis/dp/B00005JLEU, http://einsiders.com/reviews/archives/spiritedaway.php, http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=786936213843&z=y&bnit=H&cds2Pid=10568&linkid=657418, and http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=786936213843&z=y&bnit=H&cds2Pid=10568&linkid=657418. Moreover, this is just a very small selection. There are numerous others which point out the connection. You only need to look. mailbot 9.16.06
Those are all reviews. Do you have a direct quote from Miyazaki claiming Alice in Wonderland as inspiration? If not, you may want to rephrase the sentence as "reviewers have often made comparisons btween the film and Alice in Wonderland." And again, I ask why this connection isn't mentioned in the Spirited Away article and why you're not arguing for its inclusion over at that article's talk page? [edit] Mandy Moore Article

I noticed the comments in relation to the Mandy Moore article above. I am a huge Mandy fan and I thought she was fantastic in a Walk to Remember and despite what she herself said earlier this year, I think her first albums were very good. I am afraid I would have to disagree with the commentator that the Mandy article is allegedly well written. I thinks its a bit of a dogs breakfast containing a hotpotch of inconsistent points of view. Its also baised (i.e. failing to conform to a NPOV), picking out and preferring negative reviews over positive ones. The article is also very poorly structured and formatted, lumping huge great chunks of text (much of which are irrelevant and could be either deleted altogether or transferred to the trivia section) together into very general categories. Hence, when one tries to refer back to the article at a later date, one has to wade through these huge wodges of text in order to find what your looking for. Furthermore, the grammer in some sections of the article is poorly executed and long winded. It needs some tidying up. All in all, the whole article is in need of some reconstruction to make it more user friendly. I'm no Julia Roberts fan but when I looked at the article on her, it was not much better. I much prefer the format of the Daveigh Chase article and the plot descriptions are better than the actual Wikipedia film articles on the films themselves. For example, if one wants to find out all about Daveigh Chase's contribution to Spirited Away, its easy to locate in the article and literally everything you need to know about it is there in one place. In contrast, if you require information on Mandy's role in A Walk to Remember, which is after all her best film, firstly its difficult to locate and then when you do find it, there is next to no information other than the fact that she starred in it. I know practically nothing about Julia Roberts apart from the fact that she starred in Pretty Woman. After reading her article Wikipedia, I know practically little else about her contribution to Pretty Woman than the alleged fact that the film is a "cinderella story". A very poor article which is totally devoid of any real substance. The career section is nothing more than a list. Why is Julia Roberts allegedly a good actress and an icon? What was it about her performance in Erin Brockovich which won her the oscar? Unfortunately, I'm none the wiser for having ready her Wikipedia article Sorry - buts an extremely poor article and why has more attention been given in it to her personal life than her career. Surely in a reputable site like Wikipedia, much more attention should be focused upon a person's career rather than their private life. The Mandy Moore article also focuses too heavily upon her private to the detriment of the carrer sections. I would also add that again, the standard of grammer used and structuring applied in the Julia Roberts article is on the substandard side. Why, for example, has the reference to Julia Roberts being oscar nominated for Pretty Woman not been added to the end of the preceding paragraph. It certainly does not belong at the beginning of the following paragraph and that is just one of many faults. Accordingly, it is my considered opinion that both the Mandy and Julia Roberts articles are of a much poorer quality than the Daveigh Chase one. Sorry if all this comes across as it bit rushed. I had very little time to write it. I would like to contribute some time to some Wikipedia articles myself, but unfortunately due to my job, I never have enough time to do so.
