[edit] New York Post Article / Sources Question
On August 2nd of 2006, New York Post's own gossip columnist Cindy Adams ran the following story, wonderfully titled "Here's What's Behing the Chappelle's Story" (link: http://www.nypost.com/seven/08022006/gossip/cindy/cindy.htm). Being that Cindy's very profession has the dangerous word "[gossip" in its' very name, I have chosen not to alter any of the information concerning Mr. Chappelle's departure from his show. I must admit, that the story checks out rather well against his statements made on Oprah, yet that hardly constitutes a surprise, since I don't doubt that Ms. Adams watches Oprah, too.
In any case, I've taken the liberty to add the link into the bottom-most "links" section on the page. I do wonder if such content is suitable for the encyclopedia, since there is a question of] whether or not Wikipedia assumes that its' well informed readers would look up Cindy Adams prior to acceptance of her gossip column as a solid fact.

Does ha anyone know if he practices actual Islam or is he a member of the Nation of Islam? This article states that he has been a Muslim for several years, was his support of marijuana just an act? Neither Islam nor the NOI support the use of narcotics.
- In his inside the actor's studio interview, Dave Chappelle stated that he had used marijuana, sometimes heavily, and that he used it while writing the script for "half-baked." Though not a great movie, as Dave concedes, there is some good stuff in the movie "half-baked," which, believe it or not, has something to say about marijuana. In an episode during season 2 of Chappelle's show, he poked fun at himself at 24, quoting himself as having had the motto "Hey, hey, hey - smoke weed every day." In another episode in season 2, he told the audience that he had quit using the drug. No, I don't think Dave Chappelle's support for marijuana was an act, but I don't think using the drug makes him insincere in his beliefs, just imperfect like the rest of us.

- The Nation of Islam has nothing to do with the true religion of Islam. NOI is a hate group - nothing more. As for Chappelle's marijuana smoking, I agree with the person's comment above. Most people don't follow all of their religion's proscriptions. --jonasaurus 05:36, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

- He's a mainstream Muslim (as opposed to NOI)- he regularly offers Friday prayers at the 96th Street Mosque in Manhattan, and is frequently spotted at other masjids in NYC (mostly downtown.) He seems to lean towards Tablighi Jama`at masjids and has been seen at their main center in Queens. Considering that South Africa is the major center for tablighi/Deobandi activity in the English-speaking world, there's a good chance he went there in jama`at. There are a couple of threads in the Islamica web forum reporting sightings and gossip on him from the perspective of his Muslim fans - including people mentioning seeing him at prayers in NYC at the very time he was first rumored to be in rehab. As for the content of his comedy (and it's presumed relation to his real life,) I don't think he would claim to be a good Muslim, just a Muslim.
- Indeed. Same as I might call myself a Christian, though I smoke pot, have not married my long-term partner, and even -- gasp! -- laugh at Chappelle Show. ie. like damn near everyone else in America. Scratch the surface and it's sin all the way through!
Does anyone know his other son's name? and how do you pronounce the name mentioned in this article?

His son's name is spelled Suleyman. There are some Sufi (mystical Islam) schools of thought that use marijuana as a religious tool though it's not common or mainstream and I doubt that's why he was using it during the writing of Half-Baked.

I rewrote the Chappelle theory paragraph to reflect a little more of the insanity of it all, but does anyone know why this should remain in the article, besides being a pretty entertaining piece of satire?--71.36.216.75 22:50, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- Its inclusion in the main article doesn't seem appropriate, considering that it's speculation at best and mean-spirited satire at worst. An external link to the Chappelle Theory site would more than suffice.-ERobson 07:00, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Is there a surprising end to the theory that convinces us it's true? Because reading the first 5 or 6 pages, the shit just got thicker and thicker. Oprah whipsering in his ear and telling him that Farrakan killed Malcom, and that her and Robert Johnson would do the same to him? Okay. Joke's on me. I'm ashamed I even read that far. I'll fall for anything.
The theory itself is another Chappelle joke. That is classic Chappele genius. As soon as I got to the part where Oprah was in his house and whispers a threat to him, I realized that he just wrote it himself to see how many people would be stupid enough to believe it. It even reads like his sketches; It starts off believable, but then gets more and more ridiculous and funny as it goes on. Dave is truly becoming the modern day Andy Kaufman; The joke's on the audience.
I don't know... Farrakhan is a hatemonger who hates whites yet loves Hitler. He and Al Sharpton are both insane. I don't understand blacks spitting on their tribal gods of Africa for Islam anyway, but Farrakhan is dangerous. He's the kind of person who doesn't understand reason, but understands a stick and a gun- both advisable if you have to be near the guy. He should change his name to Blackdolf Hitler. David Duke may be a monumental blowhard and a non-threat, but Farrakhan is nuts. The Joker is more lucid. Though the inclusion of Bill Cosby, after his attacks against blacks in his speeches, seems unreasonable.

Is there a hoha reason why two birth years are given for Dave Chappelle? He wasn't born twice...
I haven't seen any reasoning for two birth years. Every source I've seen has listed his birth year as 1973. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] I have updated the page. Note also that Dave says in January of 2005, "I'm 31 years old..." [6] Zebov 21:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Is this plagiarizing the Wikipedia article, or is it the reverse? In particular, I was looking at the following paragraph from the AP article: "Last May, Chappelle stunned his fans and the entertainment industry by skipping out on a $50 million contract and leaving "Chappelle's Show" in mid-production. He spent two weeks in South Africa before returning home to his farm near Yellow Springs, Ohio. He has since resumed performing live standup."

Does anyone have the source of when Dave Chappelle said he played WoW?
Everyone plays WoW nowadays, I just can't imagine him being an enthusiast. I doubt that he can find much time to play WoW while he has a full blown movie star career. Probably a false statement.

People keep mocking the Chappelle theory, but something, I'm not saying that theory exactly, really shook him up. Even to this day he still doesn't explain what happened, but says, "I was tired of other people trying to control the show". Something pretty rough happened to him and the Chappelle theory may be a loose explanation.
Just saw him last night at a small club in SF. Someone asked about the "Chappelle Theory" and he said he was familiar from it, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. He blames the "white man" -- which he was careful to point out that was not inclusive to "white people in general" -- but rather, wealthy Comedy Central executives. -- J.
Okay, I don't expect you guys to take my word for this but there was a point at which the Chappelle Theory's website had a message, ostensibly from the creator, saying he made the whole thing up to prove how gullible people were, and that he was appalled that so many took him seriously. Obviously it's no longer there, and I imagine there's a very remote chance the site was vandalized, but obviously it's very unlikely. If I'm stating something that's already widely known I'm sorry--there's no article on the "theory" itself. Somebody has vandalized part of the body of the text right before 'Personal Life' - they used the N-bomb in big bold letters. I can't seem to be able to remove it. Fysika

Trivia mentions the lost episode with the San Andreas lyric. I haven't removed it, but it seems to me that the idea is that "He wrote this song in '94" and that SA is in the early '90s and that the song is about Tupac not being dead.
I changed the quote about Coke and Pepsi and removed the citation because they were inconsistent with For What It's Worth. Winkymcgee 16:23, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Can someone find information on if th lost episodes aired on comedy central was a flop or not. I saw it and i thought it was nowhere near the 1st two seasons. - Well, the lost episodes wasn't a flop, I'll tell you that much. Might've got less of an audience due to the missing host Dave Chappelle.

I removed the sentence stating Chappelle was inducted as an Honorary Member in 2006. While Central State did throw an after party, Kappa Kappa Psi HQ has no records of him being inducted as an Honorary member. This can be confirmed from the the post made on the National forum by the National Chapter Field Representative(accounts are verifiable as you have to verify who you are before being added to the forum). In his Inside the Actors Studio interview Chappelle did not explicitly state that the death of his father was the reason he went to Africa. In fact, his father died a number of years prior to his leaving the show.Winkymcgee 16:23, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
