David "Dave" Tippett (Born: August 25, 1961 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, Canada) is a former left-winger and current head coach in the National Hockey League. Tippett is the 19th head coach of the Dallas Stars, since accepting the job on May 21, 2002. As head coach for the Dallas Stars, Tippet has a career record of 87-48-27. Tippett has a home record of 56-14-14 which currently ranks him fifth in the NHL for coaches with a minimum of 50 career home wins.

Tippett came to Dallas after a stint as assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings that lasted three full seasons, helping to lead the Kings to the playoffs all three seasons, after the team qualified for post-season play just one out of the previous six seasons.

Prior to coaching in the NHL, Tippet was a head coach in the International Hockey League with the Houston Aeros where he coached them to the 1999 Turner Cup where they beat the Orlando Solar Bears, 4-3. That same year, Tippett was named the IHL Coach of the Year when the Aeros received the Fred A. Huber Jr. Memorial Trophy for the league's best regular season record (54-15-13).

Before becoming a head coach Tippett played 11 seasons as a forward in the National Hockey League. He has played for the Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. In 721 career games he registered 93 goals and 169 assists totaling 262 points and 317 penalty minutes. Tippett finished his playing career with the Aeros as a player and an assistant coach.

Also attached to Dave Tippett's credits are appearances in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia as assistant captain of the Canadian Team and the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France where he and the rest of the Canadian Team earned Silver Medals.

Tippett and his wife, Wendy, have two daughters, Nicole and Natalie. They reside together in Plano, Texas.
