[edit] Gameplay
Darkwatch does not differentiate from other first-person shooters in its gameplay, and some would say that it is unoriginal--from an arsenal of weaponry incredibly familiar to shooter fans (having staple revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles, and a rocket launcher) to the general "same-ness" of each level (blow up everything, move on), Darkwatch does little to stand out, aside from its heralded presentation and unique setting.
Jericho's vampiric powers are something of note, however, though they are little more than standard FPS powerups. There are two paths along the way, the way of good and the way of evil. While this choice determines what the final boss is, it also (more importantly) determines the vampiric powers that Jericho has access to.
[edit] Multiplayer
In multiplayer, you may choose to be two or more player pitted against each other in a regular Deathmatch game mode, though a co-operative play mode is available on the PS2, where the second player plays as a Darkwatch Regulator. One is also capable of playing on Xbox Live, but a System Link mode is lacking.
[edit] Characters
[edit] Jericho Cross
The main character of the game, Jericho Cross' sharp reflexes and sharper gunslinging skills have forged him to be a tough outlaw of the west. During his "one last job" on a train, Jericho unwittingly releases Lazarus into the world in a failed attempt to get rich. Now cursed as a vampire, Jericho has joined the Darkwatch to bring Lazarus down, and either redeem himself or spread his legacy of terror.
[edit] Cassidy Sharp
Orphaned as a little girl when vampires slaughtered her parents, Cassidy had to grow up in a man's world and prove herself to ride, think, and shoot just as well as they could. Haunted by visions of her family's massacre at the claws of vampires that would not condescend to kill her, Cassidy harbors deep doubts about her abilities and her courage in the face of the supernatural--doubts for which she compensates by being the most career-driven agent in the Darkwatch.
[edit] Tala
Sultry, seductive, and sensual, Tala's voluptuous body hides a distressing past. When her father was murdered by treacherous fur traders, and her seer of a mother sent to die in a storm by her fearful tribe, Tala developed an intense distrust of others--not only for the white man, but also for those of her own tribe. She was eventually captured and abused by the same traders who killed her father, and was eventually rescued by the Darkwatch, who quickly made them one of their own.
Deep inside Tala, however, is a desire to never be powerless again, and that she'd use any means necessary to gain revenge on a world that had murdered her family.
[edit] Trivia
- The developers licensed Ennio Morricone's main theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The theme was remixed to fit the horror feel of the game.
- The remaining music on the Darkwatch soundtrack is completely original, co-composed by Mike Reagan, a veteran film and game music composer, and Asdru Sierra, frontman for Latin Grammy winning indie band Ozomatli.
- Tala is voiced by Rose McGowan, best known for her starring role on the TV series "Charmed."
