Dantidurga

Dantidurga (735 - 756) C.E. was the founder of the empire called Rashtrakuta. He also went by the name Dantivarman. His capital was at Mayukhandi in Bidar district of Karnataka. He was succeeded by his uncle Krishna I who extended his kingdom to all of Karnataka.
The Ellora record of Dantidurga says he defeated the Chalukyas in 753. The inscription calls him son of Indra. The Samangad inscription says his mother was a Chalukya princess from Gujarat called Bhavanaga. The same inscription says he defeated the invincible Karnataka Bala of the Badami Chalukyas. He captured Lata and Malwa in central India and performed many sacrifices.[1]. His daughter was married to a Pallava King Nandivarman of Kanchi. Dantidurga also helped Nandivarman recover Kanchi by warring against the Chalukyas.[2].
