Daniel Waters (writer)

Daniel Waters (born on November 30, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American screenwriter and film director. He is the older brother of director Mark Waters.
He came to prominence in 1989 for writing the darkly subversive teen comedy Heathers, for which he received a 1990 Edgar Award. Over the next four years, he served as co-writer on the gross-out comedy The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, wrote the sinister Batman Returns for director Tim Burton, and then channeled his unique sense of humour into the films Hudson Hawk (for which he re-teamed with Heathers director Michael Lehmann) and Demolition Man.
In 2001, Waters made his directorial debut with Happy Campers, a subversive teen comedy in a slightly lighter vein to Heathers. His follow-up, Sex and Death 101 is due for release in 2007. Reuniting Waters with Heathers star Winona Ryder, the film is said to be a hybrid of science fiction, dark comedy, and romantic thriller.
