Daniel Goldman was born in 1966 in Walnut Creek to renowned ceramic artist and former ballerina Anne Goldman and physicist/psychologist Donald Goldman.
Daniel Goldman has worked in the online and computer entertainment industry since 1983, when he created "The Inner Circle" BBS, one of the most popular and innovative early bulletin board services.
In 1984, Goldman joined Heuristic Software to develop chess games for SciTec, which sold specialized hardware through Macy's and Sharper Image.
Starting in 1989, Goldman's company, Tangent Online, developed the PC versions of Will Wright's Sim City, Sim Ant, and Sim Earth as well as Ken Karakotsios' Sim Life for Maxis.
Janice Linden-Reed and Goldman co-founded Optigon Interactive in 1991 which created a service named "TEN", or the Total Entertainment Network. Goldman served as CEO of Total Entertainment Network.
During this time Goldman did volunteer work for such organizations as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and World Health Organization (WHO).
In 1995, Kleiner Perkins invested in Total Entertainment Network, which acquired Outland, a Mac based online game service run by David King. (Total Entertainment Network was renamed to Pogo and sold to Electronic Arts in 2001).
