David Benjamin Rees is known as D.Ben Rees in Welsh publishing and literary circles.His small publishing house,Modern Welsh Publications Ltd, was established in 1963 and from 1963 to 1968 it operated from Abercynon in the Cynon Valley of South Wales,and since 1968 from Allerton,Liverpool.It is the only Welsh language publishing hous still operating in the city of Liverpool. Literary Work. In a 40 year span as a writer D.Ben Rees has been instrumental in forging links in 3 main categories. Peace and Pacifism. The biography of Mahatma Gandhi:Pensaer yr India (Mahatma Gandhi;The Architect of India)was published in 1970 and in a review in the monthly magazine Barn the Revd Alwyn Roberts praised the contents as it brought the contribution of Gandhi to a new generation of readers.This volume was the inspiration for a series of 3 books on Welsh pacifists.Each volume included a portrayal of the peace initiatives of well known peaceworkers by academics and authors under the title Herio'r Byd(1980), Dal i Herio' Byd(1982) and Dal Ati i Herio'r Byd.(1984) and all edited by D.Ben Rees. Welsh Culture. The author has written a number of books in English and Welsh on Writers. 1)Wales:Culture Heritage (1982) is a popular introduction to the Welsh press,the eisteddfodic tradition as well as defining what is entauiled in the phrase welsh culture. 2)Samuel Roberts of Llanbrynmair was a prolific author of tbn Victorian era and this volume was published by the University of Wales Writers of Wales series under the editorship of Dr Meic Stephens and Dr R.Brinley Jones in English in 1988. 3) Welsh Nonconformity, Victorian Studies as well as the History of the Liverpool Welsh community are the maim theme of another 12 volumes that have appeared from the pen of this author between 1975 and 2006
