D. A Fletcher
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
D.A Fletcher was a character in Warren Beatty's 1990 movie Dick Tracy. D.A (or district attorney) Fletcher was played by TV legend Dick Van Dyke, but unlike Van Dyke's previous roles in which he was usually the hero. The D.A he played in the film was shady and worked for crime boss Big Boy (played by Al Pacino). He is ordered by Big Boy to keep Tracy off his case, but soon Big Boy tries to get rid of Tracy in a non-murdering way. so he hires the famous faceless crook we see in the film along with his pianist 88 Keys (played by Mandy Patinkin) to lure Fletcher into a trap where they murder him and frame Tracy for the murder. Although Van Dyke's role in the film was very small, Beatty though a lot of him when he need somebody for the district attorney. Years Later in a 2001 interview. Van Dyke later said that when Beatty started casting for the role, he said that he [Beatty] wanted a district attorney that people would trust. It could be said the small but positive reviews that he received for his role in the film led Van Dyke to the path that would eventually be Diagnosis: Murder.
