The basic plot of 14 Carrot Rabbit takes time during the gold rush in America, it centers on Yosemite Sam’s greedy approach to steal and claim other people’s gold that he did not work for. The story begins with an old man slouching over by a river to clean the gold he found in a pan. Yosemite Sam sees that this man is recovering gold, and uses his gun and reputation of “Killer Coot Sam” to shoots him away, and then claims the gold. But when he saw how little he has stolen from the old man, he can only say “Hardly no reward for a day’s work,” even though he did not work for it. Yosemite Sam later takes the gold to a shop called “Next to Last Chance to Saloon” to trade them for money. He places the gold on the counter and orders, “Here Pierre, weigh this up, and don’t put your thumb on the scale.” After the weigh, Yosemite Sam was furious to find out that Pierre can only offer amount of $10 for the gold. While he was complaining about the result, Bugs Bunny wobbles into the shop with a gigantic piece of gold to trade for a couple roots of carrots. When Bugs Bunny left, Yosemite Sam asks Pierre the origin of Bugs Bunny’s finding, and he tells him that Bugs Bunny finds gold because he gets a phony feeling when he’s near gold. With this information, Yosemite Sam decides to ask Bugs Bunny to be his partner, a 50/50 deal. Bugs Bunny stares back at the camera and wiggles his eyebrows with trickery smirk, knowing that Yosemite Sam can not be trusted and he will have to play some tricks on him. They were strolling along together when Bugs Bunny randomly starts to act “phony”, which is the sign that indicates he’s found gold. When Yosemite Sam sees this, he pushes Bugs Bunny over to start digging for gold and rejects the partnership with Bugs Bunny then says “that’s what I get for trusting a rabbit” He starts to dig deeper and deeper, but it turns out he is in a dump truck full of rock and soil. The truck driver happens to be Bugs Bunny who drives the truck to a cliff and empties the truck over the edge. But Yosemite Sam keeps digging and finds himself on the bottom of the soil pile and imagines that he has dug through the globe, “Great Honey Tooty I must dug clean to Chiny”, and falls into a hard ground. Angry Yosemite Sam chases Bugs Bunny through every state in Union. When he finally caught up with Bugs Bunny, he has another “phony moment”, Yosemite Sam tries to resist the gold digging infatuation but ends up caving in and starts to dig. This time Bugs Bunny was right and he find tons of gold, but finds out that he is digging at United States Gold Reserve in Fort Knox. He ends up getting taken away by US soldiers with felony. Another soldier finds Bugs Bunny and asks him what he is doing here, he wittily replies, “Well, me? I’m waiting for a street car” but instead of a car, a ship glides in front of Bugs Bunny and he gets on and leaves the scene.
