[edit] My take on userboxes

This user is  disappointed by admins who ignore  is  Important">process.

In the end, the userbox wars are  being fought over a matter of small importance: whether or  not userboxes should exist in template space. Both sides have  lost perspective on this, and  a lot of time has been wasted on the issue; this is  everyone's fault. But I place the blame most heavily on the administrators, who should be above such partisanship. The actions of some admins were (and still are) more  divisive than any userbox. and  as a result, many of us were alienated, and  some of the most outstanding people on Wikipedia left altogether. and anyone else whose ideals prevented him from continuing to contribute to our encyclopedia.

As for my personal take on the issue, I think there are  many valid arguments on both sides of the userbox debate; see WP:DRVU for examples. But the whole debate really boils down to one question: Why fix what's not broken? Templates are  just an  easier way to use features of Wikipedia. If people such as myself want to use templates in their userspace, I don't have  a problem with that. Ideally, even controversial boxes like Template:User girllover would be allowed. But I would be happy with a compromise that simply holds the Template space to the same restrictions as User space.

I hope a sensible compromise can be reached on this issue. But meanwhile, I will simply ask those involved in the debate, and  especially the administrators, to be civil and  considerate of others' opinions. Remember that others care strongly about this, and  think about the effects of your actions.
