Saves the Day is an indie rock/pop punk band, formed in 1997 in Princeton, New Jersey.

Inspired by mid-1990s melodic hardcore groups such as Lifetime, Saves the Day (Jersey's Second Best Dancers), along with Chris Conley, originally performed in the New Jersey hardcore scene under the name Sefler.
Saves the Day released the 5-song acoustic [EP] I'm Sorry I'm Leaving in January of 1998. Including a sixth track on the vinyl b-side, this release marked the depth and varying talents of Chris Conley and Dave Soloway. I'm Sorry I'm Leaving created a range of acoustic talent from melodic ballads to a poppy cover of Modern English's I Melt With You. In the liner notes of their 2005 B-Sides Album release, Conley claims that his lyrics for these songs were meant to be cheesy but have become incredibly popular over the years.
The band landed their first Album Can't Slow Down on Equal Vision Records in August of 1998. Conley is said to have written much of the music performed by members of the band in this album.
Saves the Day returned to release 1999's Through Being Cool. This release would rocket the band into a larger market and strong popularity in the speed punk and pop punk era of the late 90s. The band had a more collective process of writing this album, with a fast paced and melodic speed punk sound, and a definitive development in Chris Conley's personal and intense lyrical style. With extensive touring and the additional release of two b-sides, Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off to Heaven and A Drag in D Flat, on Vagrant Records' Another Year on the Streets compilation, the band would release an extremely different sounding album with Vagrant in 2001.
Again released on Vagrant, Stay What You Are delivered power ballads and pop anthems experimenting with a more melodic sound. With this release, Conley's lyrics continued to play on dark metaphors in a bright manner, building a sound base for the band which would assume stylistic change for another album.
Saves the Day then went on to sign with major label DreamWorks and released In Reverie but, according to Chris Conley, the label, "...completely abandoned it three days after it was released, saying that we made the wrong record" (Skratch Magazine Issue 122). The album, though released by DreamWorks, still had the Vagrant Records logo on it, which was a result of their non-fulfilled contract with Vagrant. Fans were also split by the drastic change in sound on In Reverie, (the record shifted more towards 60's inspired pop music while also garnering comparisons to Weezer), which probably contributed to the record's abandonment by DreamWorks. The label was sold a month later to a conglomerate.
In August 2004 Saves The Day released a b-sides and rarities album, entitled Ups & Downs: Early Recordings And B-Sides via Vagrant Records, this album was released in order to fulfill their contractual agreements with Vagrant.
With DreamWorks disbanded and their contract with Vagrant fulfilled the band decided to build a home studio (named the Electric Ladybug) in a one car garage on Conley's property in Durham, California. Taking their time the band started work on their next album.
On January 30, 2006, it was announced that Saves the Day had re-signed with former label Vagrant Records for the release of their self-funded project Sound the Alarm. The album was released on April 11, 2006, and began touring in fall 2005 with Emanuel, The Early November, and Senses Fail.
The band recently released a compilation of acoustic reinterpretations of their own material, titled Bug Sessions, Vol. 1, available only at the venues of their most recent tour. The album, was created "for the fans," with acoustic cuts of fan favorites, such as: Jodie (Can't Slow Down), Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off to Heaven (Ups and Downs), You Vandal (Through Being Cool), and Freakish (Stay What You Are), among others.
The band was also featured on the soundtrack to the video gameTony Hawk's American Wasteland, performing a cover of the Dead Boys' song Sonic Reducer. Recently Saves the Day was featured on Madden NFL 2007, performing Head for the Hills from the Sound the Alarm album.
Along with Senses Fail, Saves the Day is playing two sets on each date of the 2006 Warped Tour. The first includes the full band, and electric guitars. The second has Conley with an acoustic guitar, with the rest of the band playing in the background. The acoustic set has no set list, with the songs instead being chosen by crowd request. Usually, the band ends the set with fan favorite Jessie and My Whetstone.
