Phil Sawford

Philip Andrew Sawford, known as Phil Sawford, (born 26 June 1950) is an English politician and former Member of Parliament for Kettering. He is on the left of the Labour Party, and a member of the Socialist Campaign Group. He is a sworn republican, an outspoken campaigner for the abolition of hunting, and was an opponent of the US/British invasion of Iraq in 2003.
His background is in local government, as a Councillor from 1977 to 1997, and Leader of Kettering Borough Council from 1991 until his election to Parliament in 1997.
He won his seat in the 1997 election, defeating Conservative Cabinet minister, Roger Freeman. He lost it to the Conservative Philip Hollobone in the 2005 election.
He is married to Rosemary, with two sons Lee Sawford and Andrew Sawford.
