Moccasin Creek State Park

Moccasin Creek State Park is a 32 acre (0.13 km²) state park located on the western shore of Lake Burton in Rabun County in the northeast corner of Georgia. The Park features campgrounds; a fishing pier for the physically disabled, the elderly, and children; and walking trails. Even though the surronding area is mountaineous, the camping area is relatively flat.
Moccasin Creek State Park was established in 1963 as a campground, the result of a vision of the then Director of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game and Fish Division, Fulton Lovell. The 32 acre tract was purchased for $63,415 and the Park was orinally run by the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery. Just three years after it was established, the campground was turned over to the State because it was too busy for the Hatchery to manage. Thus, in 1966, it was renamed the Moccasin Creek State Park. In 1993, a pavillion at the Park was named the Fulton Lovell Assembly Shelter in honor of Fulton Lovell.
The Park is located on Georgia State Route 197, 20 miles north of Clarkesville, Georgia. The adjacent Lake Burton Fish Hatchery offers an opportunity to learn how trout are raised. The Park offers easy access to the Chattahoochee National Forest and its features, such as the Appalachian Trail.
