A pen is a tool used for writing or drawing. The ink of the pen is pressed onto paper and dries very quickly.
Dip pens are a very old type of pen. They do not hold ink inside of them. The writing end (or "nib") is dipped into an inkwell before writing. It is necessary to dip the pen into ink many times during writing or drawing.
Fountain pens are like dip pens, but can hold ink inside.
A ballpoint pen is usually a cylindrical plastic shaft with a smaller shaft containing ink. It has a very small metal ball on the writing end that rolls the ink onto the paper.
